The aim of the project “Modelling the future development of the choice of mode of transportation for everyday travel” is extending the MikroSim model to forecast the mobility choices of the German population in the future. Transportation models often focus on short term detail and restrict themselves to a specific location. This project intends to introduce new research questions by simulating Germany as a whole and its regional differentiation, as well as modelling individual level characteristics over a larger simulation horizon. Personal transport preferences, accepted as relevant in the literature but frequently neglected, are accounted for to give the simulations accuracy and depth. Possible scenarios are wide ranging: the effects of infrastructure, employment characteristics (home office) and long-term demographic change can be considered. Preliminary results regarding transport related choices will be presented.
