In this contribution we examine the different care systems of Austria, Spain and England and the extent to which institutions and policies influence the size and composition of caregiving groups in society, particularly concerning the mix between formal and informal care. Based on the comparative literature of long-term care regimes we identify common as well as country-specific vulnerabilities of national care systems and the potential implications for their adaption to changing demographic and socio-economic conditions.
